Why We Started Kids Explore Robotics

Hi, I’m Vinod Agrawal, an engineer with over 25 years of industry experience. I started Kids Explore Robotics with my son, who’s now an engineering student at Purdue.

This was actually his idea. He got into robotics early and loved it—but he quickly realized something was missing. Most robotics programs just handed kids a kit with instructions. They followed steps, but they weren’t really learning how things worked—and definitely not how to code for themselves.

So we decided to do something different.

The Problem We Saw

Too many robotics programs focus on just assembling pre-made kits. Kids end up snapping together parts without understanding the logic, electronics, or real programming behind it. There’s little room for creativity, exploration, or deeper learning.

Worse, many of these programs are either too complex, too expensive, or simply not designed with younger learners in mind.

Our Solution: Learn by Building & Coding Real Robots

We created Kids Explore Robotics to change how kids learn robotics. Here’s how we’re different:

We teach the full process — from understanding individual parts to building a fully functional robot
We teach real programming — not just block coding, but simple, text-based coding kids can actually learn and apply
We designed our own robots — over 20 of them, each original and created for real learning and fun
We make it accessible — for kids as young as 6 years old all the way through high school

Our hands-on approach builds critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative confidence—all while kids are having a blast.

Who is it for

For ALL kids. We believe every child should have the chance to learn STEM, particularly robotics. We have something for all kids - kids as young as 6 years old to high school level kids. Each robot is original, hands-on, and built to spark imagination and critical thinking.

Why your kids should learn Robotics?

  • Robotics is fun, engaging, rewarding, and educational for all kids.

  • Your kid(s) get to be an engineer (see the smiles on their faces when they come home and tell you all about it – PRICELESS!).

  • Working on simple design of robots gets their creative juices flowing.

  • Robotics helps build self-confidence as kids see instant results.

  • Robotics improves critical thinking and teaches problem solving skills.

  • Robots are here. Could be a great career option.

Why work with Kids Explore Robotics?

We are different. Our robots are simple in design but provide a powerful learning experience that is fun, engaging, rewarding and educational. They are designed to get the creative juices flowing, build self-confidence, and let your kids discover the possibilities.

  • Kids Explore Robotics was founded and run by an experienced engineer (dad) and engineering student (son).

  • Lots of unique robots. Each robot is different and focuses on unique learning skills.

  • All our robots are custom-made from simple wooden blocks and 3D printed parts. Our creative and original designs are simple but provide a powerful learning experience.

  • Our open-concept designs teach behind-the-scenes of robotics and coding to maximize learning

  • Students work on many fun-filled individual activities that are building blocks of robotics to maximize learning – every student gets to work on the activities.

  • Students work on many group projects (small groups of 3 to 4) where every student gets to participate – they learn teamwork and social skills while they help and learn from each other

  • Kids get to design, build, and program different robots. Activities and projects are carefully and intentionally designed to get their creative juices flowing. Kids get to be engineers.

  • We have age-appropriate activities and projects for ALL kids and ALL skill levels.

  • Most importantly – Kids have a BLAST while they learn a LOT!

Our teaching method breaks down the learning in small chunks and makes it really easy for any kids to understand, comprehend, and learn. Kids work on individual activities as well as group projects that improve critical thinking, teamwork, and social skills under the guidance of our trained experts.

Who is it for?

FAQs

Do I need to purchase anything for the classes?

No, you do not need to purchase anything for the in-person classes (weekly or single 2-hr class). We will provide all the materials and parts for the hands-on experience during the classes. For the weekly as well as single 2-hr online classes (via Zoom), we will send the materials and parts needed (included in the price of online classes).

The Robotic kit/parts must be returned back at the end of the in-person classes. You have an option to purchase the kit if you want your kids to take the robot home.

You may purchase the robotics kit from a third-party before the classes if you would like to keep the robot.

If I am attending online classes (via Zoom), do I need to purchase anything?

The price of the online classes include the parts/materials needed for the classes.

Where are the in-person classes held?

The in-person classes are held in Greenwood, Indianapolis, and Carmel, IN. Please see the Classes or Summer Camps page for details.

Do you offer Summer Camps?

Yes, we recently completed the 2024 summer camp series. we will offer Summer Camps in 2025. The camps will be held in Greenwood, Indianapolis, and Carmel, IN. Please see the Summer Camps page for details.

Do you offer Online Summer Camps?

Yes, we have plans to offer Online Summer Camps starting Summer 2025. However, the exact weeks/dates will depend upon the interest level from parents and kids.

How often are the classes held?

The weekly 1-hr classes are held every week. However, for the single 2-hr classes, it depends upon the level of interest from kids/parents and our availability.

Do you offer video classes where I can work and learn on my own time and at my own pace?

Yes, I have a series of video classes on my YouTube Channel. Video classes are just as effective as live classes for learning. They provide you an added flexibility to learn on your own time and at your own pace.

If I do the video classes, do I need to purchase anything to enhance the learning experience for my kids?

No. The purchase of the Robotics Kit is not necessary even for the video classes as I give demonstration of everything I teach in the class including building of the robot. However, I recommend purchasing a kit if you would like your kid to have hands-on experience of actually building and programming the robot. This will also enhance an overall learning experience and your kid would get a lot more out of the classes.
